Blend and Origin
Newton Vineyard Skyside Claret 2016
A blend of 66% merlot, 12% cabernet sauvignon, 9% petit verdot, 8% carignan and 5% syrah, this wine incorporates grapes from Lake, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. With roots in Bordeaux’s classic right bank style, it has evolved to include syrah and carignan to gain juiciness and a bold fruit character. Ten months in oak (25% new) helps to build a nuanced complexity.

More to try
Go for the grill
Roasted eggplant, simmered in a tomato sauce spiced with sweet paprika, cumin and red pepper, is a lovely match with this wine.
For your entrée, serve lamb burgers or a tri-tip steak straight off the grill. The smoky flavors will complement the claret’s bold fruit character.
