Winter cocktail: a hot toddy with a twist

Feel like trying a warm cognac cocktail? “Not in this life!” you might say, but warm cocktails made with cognac are actually all the rage, like our exotic Hennessy hot toddy. One of the top winter-warming drinks for beating sub-zero temperatures, it’s up there with Irish coffee and mulled wine. Usually made with whiskey, the hot toddy is a typically British beverage that supposedly comes from India, and it’s perfect for spicing up those dark, cold wintry evenings. In this recipe, we give the cocktail a bit of a twist and recommend using cognac instead of whiskey. Just add sugar and spices like cinnamon or cardamom to a couple of shots of Hennessy VSOP cognac in boiling water; you can also add a hint of lemon and a spoonful of maple syrup. The cognac brings smoothness, warmth and texture to the palate while the spices and lemon give that extra kick. Some even say a hot toddy is the perfect cure for a cold. Move over, Irish coffee!
