Follow the Garonne river south from Bordeaux and you’ll find the 400-year-old Château d'Yquem. Located on Sauternes’ highest hill, this premier cru estate produces only vintage sweet wines from sémillon and sauvignon blanc varietals.
The beauty of Château d'Yquem’s wines is in the lasting taste, described in French as “Il fait la queue du paon,” which translates to “fans out like a peacock's tail.” Pale gold in colour when young, they become deeper-hued and develop character as they age.
Since being founded in 1959, Château d’Yquem has maintained a dedication to excellence that makes the estate’s wines revered amongst oenophiles. Depending on the vintage, flavours can vary from fresh and blossomy to deeper apricot and honeycomb.
