The jewel of Saint-Émilion
One of only four estates in Saint-Émilion to achieve Premier Grand Cru Classé A status, Cheval Blanc pairs meticulous methods with modern design to craft its vintages. Its Bordeaux blends balance the freshness and finesse of cabernet franc with the round, full flavours of merlot.
Respecting a long legacy
The configuration of Cheval Blanc’s vineyards has remained mostly unchanged since 1832. To preserve this heritage, the estate maintains its vineyards using sélection massale – replanting cuttings from only the most exceptional old vines to capture the terroir’s singularity.
A living patchwork
Cheval Blanc’s vineyards in Saint-Emilion, located on the edge of the equally prestigious Pomerol appellation, benefit from the complex soil – an abundance of clay, sand and gravel. Blending cabernet franc, the estate’s signature grape, and merlot creates wines with power and elegance that age wonderfully.
Extreme attention to detail
Precision in the vineyard and cellar ensures the grapes picked from the estate’s 45 plots maintain their distinct personalities. Following fermentation and ageing in French oak, the wines are blended to become vintages that champion the estate’s extraordinary character.
