Details
French visual artist Eva Jospin, who has won plaudits for her elaborate cardboard sculptures, has joined creative forces with Ruinart to create a wooden case for a limited-edition jeroboam of Ruinart's signature Blanc de Blancs champagne.
Limited to just a few signed and numbered pieces and fastened by upcycled leather straps, this custom-made wooden box opens onto the scene of a Ruinart chalk-walled cellar in miniature, sculpted out of layers of cardboard. The large-format bottle is set within this recessed landscape, a metaphor for the making of champagne and its fermentation sheltered from light.

BLEND & ORIGIN CHAMPAGNE

BLEND AND ORIGIN:
Ruinart Blanc de Blancs

The intensity and simultaneous lightness of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is achieved by using a blend of 100% chardonnay, mainly from premiers crus in Côte des Blancs (69%) and Montagne de Reims (31%), and 20-25% reserve wines.

The chalkiness of the soil allows for a pure expression of the grape's flavours, and ageing in the crayères develops its aromatic richness.

A work of art:
All about Eva

For her collaboration with Ruinart, French contemporary artist Eva Jospin transformed her impressions from time spent exploring Reims, the Champagne region and Ruinart's ancient chalk-walled cellars into meaningful works of art that beckon you to immerse yourself in the very same landscape. This ultra-rare jeroboam set gradually reveals that landscape in a unique way.

What lies beneath:
Layers upon layers

By using a very raw material like cardboard, Eva Jospin links her works to Ruinart's sustainable commitments and initiatives. Cardboard is not only lightweight, sturdy and environmentally friendly, it also has happy parallels with winemaking – creating collectible art out of cardboard is akin to taking the humble grape and transforming it into something remarkable. Just as Jospin is known for conjuring up wondrous worlds out of an everyday material, Ruinart's cellar master extracts the flavours and aromas that give life to a luxe champagne from nothing more than a simple grape.

Second sitting:
A meeting of minds

Transforming humble materials into something special isn't the only parallel between the work of Eva Jospin and Ruinart. Skill and mastery are required in cutting a cardboard forest with a blade, as they are in pruning vines with secateurs; they are needed in shaping layers of a décor just as they are in the riddling of bottles. In Jospin’s studio, as in the vineyards and cellars of Ruinart, the repetition of precise gestures is key.
