BLEND & ORIGIN CHAMPAGNE

BLEND AND ORIGIN:
Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage Collection 1996

Made from an assemblage that's almost equal parts pinot noir (50%) and chardonnay (45%), with a dash of meunier (5%), this vintage is characteristic of the tumultuous conditions in the vineyards across 1996.

Summer that year was particularly unpredictable, with plenty of wet spells mixed with prematurely dry weather. However, winds and extreme heat in the month before harvest left the grapes perfectly dry for picking.

This weather pattern resulted in a vintage of extraordinary ripeness and a maturity level that stands out because of its unprecedented strength-acidity balance.

After a lengthy spell of ageing, the flavours intertwined and developed before a relatively late disgorgement in June 2017.
