    Krug Collection 1982

Krug Collection 1982 comprises 54% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay and 16% meunier. The 1982 harvest was abundant thanks to a classic year in terms of climate. Warm weather in June, July, August and September, with sufficient rain when the vines needed it, produced exceptional grapes.

A rare vintage from an exceptional year

Creating a classic
Creating a classic

Every single drop of Krug is the fulfilment of founder Joseph Krug’s dream – to create prestigious champagnes whose pleasure lives long in the mouth and longer in the memory. Over the centuries, Joseph’s descendants have kept this vision at the heart of the maison’s production, only releasing vintages that are the ultimate expression of the Krug style. The 1982 is one such example, part of a rare series where one vintage followed another, previously seen with the legendary 1928 and 1929 vintages.

An abundant harvest
An abundant harvest

Resulting in one of the most generous grape yields in the history of Champagne, 1982 was a classic year in the region. Periods of hot weather in June, July, August and September were interspersed with rain at just the right moments. The vines, which had produced very little over the previous two years, generated grapes of excellent ripeness and character. And the full-bodied nature of Krug’s 1982 vintage has leant it to ageing beautifully.

The vinification process for Krug Collection champagnes is distinct: grapes from each plot are first moved into individual oak casks after harvesting. These barrels are neutral, and do not lend any woody, tannic or vanilla flavours. The vins clairs – or base wines – are not aged in these casks, but born in them. During this short period, the wines develop the character that is essential for creating the blend and for enhancing the champagne’s ageing potential. The Krug Collection 1982 is an assemblage comprising wines chosen for their ability to capture the character of the year.

Food pairing:
Try with warmly spiced South Asian dishes

Starter

Prawn tikka with a mango chutney is a fitting match.

Main

Experiment with a fragrant yellow chicken curry – subtly spicy and creamy.

Dessert

An orange soufflé or carrot cake will be a delightful pairing with this champagne, as will mature Comté cheese.
