6 Champagne and Cocktail Terraces to Enjoy This Spring

Restrictions are easing in the UK and the weather seems to be improving – meaning just one thing. It’s time to start booking those outdoor drinking and dining experiences. You can find our partner bars and restaurants using Storemapper, and to help you whittle down your list, we’ve picked some of our favourites...

1. The Rooftop at Boundary in Shoreditch

Unlike cities like LA and New York, rooftop bars in London are few and far between, so make a reservation in advance for the Boundary hotel rooftop to soak up views of the East London skyline while enjoying a Belvedere vodka cocktail or two. The rooftop has been open since April 12 but after May 17 you can reserve tables inside the heated glass orangery. Both are ideal for sundowners under the fairy lights with friends, and if you fancy a bite to eat, the Mediterranean-inspired menu will surely tempt you to stay longer.

2. The River Terrace at Somerset House

On a warm spring day in central London, there’s no better place to sit and watch the world go by than on the River Terrace of Somerset House. Overlooking the Thames on the south side of this grand gallery complex, the terrace is a lovely spot to order lunch, afternoon tea or dinner accompanied by a glass of chilled Moët & Chandon champagne. With river boats chugging along and views of the Shard, Tower Bridge and Tate Modern to soak up, the setting is quintessentially London. And even if the weather turns, the dining domes offer seating for four adults, or six including children.

3. The Norton Courtyard at Grantley Hall, Yorkshire

Visit Grantley Hall in the Yorkshire Dales this spring and you can bask in the British sunshine in the Norton Courtyard, an immaculate country-garden suntrap with a great menu of seasonal dishes served with a glass of Moët & Chandon Rosé Brut or a champagne cocktail. Enjoy a glass of bubbles with your josper-cooked lobster or steak, and afterwards, take time to explore the English Heritage-listed Japanese Garden, which dates back to 1910, and the tranquil grounds of the estate.

4. Trinity Outside, Clapham

Michelin-starred dining is something we’ve all missed during the national lockdowns, and the opening of Trinity’s outdoor terrace has us especially excited. Located in quaint Clapham Old Town, this popular neighbourhood restaurant by chef-owner Adam Byatt is offering a seasonal lunch or dinner paired with a glass of Ruinart Brut, Ruinart Blancs de Blancs or Ruinart Rosé, seven days a week. The setting at the back of the restaurant with its bifold doors and planters filled with flowers and fragrant herbs feels more like a garden in Provence than a suburb of London.

Latin American restaurant Coya has teamed up with Veuve Clicquot to welcome spring in a big way. Secure a table at the Angel outpost and you’ll find yourself in the outdoor courtyard surrounded by brightly coloured blooms and dangling plants, sipping a glass of Veuve Clicquot champagne or a Veuve Clicquot cocktail. The all-day menu features Peruvian-inspired sharing plates such as ceviche and tacos, bringing a vibrant oasis vibe to the centre of the city.
