Mother’s Day Gifting Tips from our Experts

We’re done with the usual Mother’s Day bouquets (and we think our mums are too). So this year, we asked tastemakers from Ruinart, Glenmorangie and Cloudy Bay what they’d gift their mothers on this special day. Discover the classic champagnes, intriguing wines and delicious whisky cocktails which make their lists, and find out why. We think you’ll be inspired...

Frédéric Panaïotis, Ruinart’s Cellar Master

WHAT I’D GIVE

Easy! My mum is originally from the region of Champagne, born in a family of growers, so I know that champagne will always make her happy. For Mother’s Day, a bottle of Ruinart Rosé seems a bit more special.

PAIRED WITH...

There would be two more gifts: a Pierre Hermé-inspired Ispahan cake (think rose petals, raspberry and lychee) – a perfect match with Ruinart Rosé, and an Acqua di Parma rosebud candle for a luxuriously perfumed environment.

YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH...

A bottle of Ruinart Rosé. How could mums resist its luminous colour and refined, yet vibrant taste?

MIX IT UP WITH...

Who needs a cocktail when there is Ruinart on the table? Well, if someone needs a cocktail, then I guess I could always prepare a classic French 75 (with a small amount of Ruinart Rosé, and pink grapefruit in lieu of lemon). Cheers!

The finishing touch: Personalisse a gift box or give her the Ruinart glasses to match.

Brendan McCarron, Glenmorangie’s Head of Maturing Whisky Stocks

WHAT I’D GIVE

My mum loves coffee and chocolate so Glenmorangie Signet’s explosion of flavour, with chocolate and coffee notes and just a hint of orange peel, would be the perfect choice.

PAIRED WITH...

Chocolate is the best pairing for Glenmorangie Signet. A bitter orange chocolate or perhaps even chocolate-covered raisins would match perfectly.

YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH...

Glenmorangie Original. It’s my favourite. It’s complex with amazing flavours of oranges, lemons, peach and vanilla and is very influenceable for making cocktails.

MIX IT UP WITH...

I would make a Long Zest with Glenmorangie Original. It’s a light and refreshing cocktail using bitters, sugar syrup and ginger ale, which perfectly complements our famous Original whisky.

The finishing touch: Personalise a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet or Glenmorangie Original to make your gift stand out.

Julie Delmas, Cloudy Bay’s Brand Experience Manager

WHAT I’D GIVE

Cloudy Bay Pelorus Brut is always a hit for Mother’s Day. A glass of bubbles and a long bubble bath is a perfect way for our hardworking mothers to relax.

PAIRED WITH...

A little space and time, some soft-scented candles and bouquet of wild flowers.

YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH...

Te Koko. Because this unique style of oaked Sauvignon Blanc is perfect for some creative food and wine pairings. And because Te Koko changes over time, both in the cellar and in the glass, developing character, depth and maturity.

The finishing touch: Keep that bottle of Te Koko chilled in a Cloudy Bay ice bucket. Or plan to spend more time together by booking a trip to Cloudy Bay.

Gillian MacDonald, Glenmorangie’s Head of Analytics and Whisky Creation

WHAT I’D GIVE

A trip up to Glenmorangie’s Highland home, Glenmorangie House, would be an excellent indulgent experience for my mum. It’s right on the coast, surrounded by countryside, with luxury accommodation and fabulous food.

PAIRED WITH...

My mum is more of a plant person than a flower person, so I’d go for something to add to her indoor garden, that she would get great pleasure out of.

YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH...

Glenmorangie Nectar D’Or is a fantastic choice, as it is a great aperitif and digestif with elements of the signature house style, and the addition of lemon tart, creamy coconut, vanilla and white chocolate... with a ginger zest from the rare Sauternes wine casks it has been finished in.

MIX IT UP WITH...

I’d make her a Long Giraffe cocktail, which is one part Nectar D’Or to four parts grapefruit juice, served in a Collins glass filled with ice, and garnished with the zest of a pink grapefruit. Simply delicious!

The finishing touch: Book your mum a visit to Glenmorangie’s Highland home or indulge her passion for cocktails with our Baccarat glasses set.
