Meet Jean-Guillaume Prats
On a chilly January morning, the bold shapes of the Fondation Louis Vuitton and the colourful Chtchoukine collection were a fitting backdrop for a chat with the head of Moët Hennessy Estates & Wines, the collection of wine estates from LVMH. Jean-Guillaume Prats, who had just returned from Argentina, talked to us about the wineries which are blossoming: thirteen estates on four continents, spanning both hemispheres and diverse climates. All these estates – Ao Yun in China, Cloudy Bay in New Zealand, Cape Mentelle in Australia, Bodega Numanthia in Spain, Terrazas and Cheval des Andes in Argentina and all the Chandon properties – live to the seasonal rhythms of wine production. That’s why, Jean-Guillaume Prats spoke of human expertise, technicity and creativity and of a particular care for the terroir. These emblematic qualities were revealed during a tasting of The Puzzle from the Newton Vineyard, a historic estate from the Napa Valley that is always evolving. This wine represents one of the expression of the Newton Vineyard vines, located in the prestigious areas of Spring Mountain, Mount Veeder and Yountville. All these exceptional crus are the result of a careful selection of the finest grapes of the estate in a close collaboration with nature. Let’s savour them with him.
