  • Product Details

Unusually rich and intensely sweet, Cask 1784 is one of Glenmorangie’s most rare single malt whiskies. Finished in a single Pedro Ximénez sherry cask, only 636 bottles of this 16-year-old whisky exist – shared exclusively at the Distillery and through Clos19.

The single malt spent its first decade in bourbon casks, to gain Glenmorangie’s smooth, fruity style. Then aged in that sherry cask for a further six years, it delivers unparalleled cocoa depths and notes of gentle spice.

Cask 1784 was distilled in Glenmorangie’s copper stills, the tallest in Scotland. Their height allows only the finest vapours to reach the top, creating a smoother, more elegant spirit. After ten years in bourbon casks and six more in a single Pedro Ximénez cask, it was bottled on 26 March 2019 at cask strength. Cask 1784 is non chill-filtered for maximum flavour, body and depth.

A SINGULARLY RARE CREATION

Highland alchemy
Highland alchemy

Glenmorangie has been creating its smooth, complex single malt whisky in the Scottish Highlands since 1843. Its spirit is distilled in Scotland’s tallest stills, and aged in the finest oak casks. Every so often, as the whisky matures, the unique interaction between the spirit and the wood of an individual cask, brings to life a particularly special Glenmorangie. Contained within just 636 bottles, shared exclusively at the Distillery and through Clos19, Cask 1784 is one such rarity.

Years of patience
Years of patience

This whisky’s fruity, fragrant spirit began its journey to maturity in American white oak bourbon casks chosen for their superb quality. Left to age in the cool of an earth-floored warehouse, on the banks of the beautiful Dornoch Firth, it would gain the smooth, fruity style for which Glenmorangie is adored worldwide. And ten years later, Dr Bill Lumsden, the Distillery’s acclaimed Director of Whisky Creation, began to imagine the singular richness he could bring to this single malt.

The finishing touch
The finishing touch

With that vision in his mind, Dr Bill transferred the whisky into a single first-fill sherry cask which once held Pedro Ximénez – the king of sherries. After six years of finishing, Cask 1784 gained extraordinary layers of flavour, delivering classic, sherried aromas of coffee and walnut cake, and deep tastes of chocolate, dried fruits and spice. Bottled at its extraordinary peak, this surprisingly sweet and rich 16-year-old whisky is truly one of a kind.
