Details
Te Wāhi means ‘the place’ in te reo Māori – and for Cloudy Bay, this reflects the importance of terroir in this particular vintage, which is characterised by pinot grapes grown in two contrasting vineyards. There's the rocky, unforgiving Northburn terroir, which yields fruit of great structure, and the silty, rolling grounds of Calvert, which produces richly fragrant grapes.
Together, they make a powerful wine with a rich core of dark berry fruit and structured tannins that can be enjoyed now or stashed away for a spell – over time, warm spices and notes of forest floor flourish and provide even more complexity.

BLEND & ORIGIN WINES

BLEND AND ORIGIN:
Cloudy Bay Te Wahi 2019

This vintage is exceptionally well-balanced – a true reflection of a balanced year in the vineyards.

The 2019 growing season in New Zealand began with a series of frosts and a cool spring that slightly hindered flowering.

January and March were hot, with a brief reprieve in February that prevented maturation from racing away – the resulting harvest was well balanced and in excellent condition. <

After 12 months of ageing in French oak barrels (of which 30% were new), the wine was bottled in July 2020.
