- The Maison
A forward-thinking spirit has been guiding Veuve Clicquot since 1805, when Madame Clicquot succeeded her husband at the head of the Maison founded in 1772. Her ambition? To make its fine champagnes renowned “from New York to Saint Petersburg.”
An intrepid visionary and creator
Madame Clicquot brought an innovative approach to winemaking, designing the riddling table, which made it possible to remove sediment from champagne and improve its clarity. Under her direction, the maison produced the first vintage champagne and the first blend of rosé champagne with red wine.
Taking time to create luxury
Today, 11 winemakers meticulously conduct tastings during a six-month period. Led by Dominique Demarville, only the 10th cellar master in more than 240 years, the team creates the Yellow Label blend from over 400 reserve wines to create a rich, predominantly pinot noir champagne.
The finest natural conditions
Veuve Clicquot’s vineyards are some of the finest in the Champagne region, spread across 12 grands crus and 18 premiers crus. The maison’s original plots in the village of Bouzy have the ideal conditions for pinot noir: gentle slopes, cool temperatures and chalky soil.
