TASTING NOTES:
Deep and complex
Deep, dark garnet with black plum edges.
Deep and complex on the nose, it has a mineral blackcurrant core with touches of anise, bay leaves and dark chocolate giving way to rich elements of rosemary, spearmint and a moist forest floor.
On the palate, expect intense flavours of cocoa powder with dark forest berry fruits, peppered with notes of spiced ginger and caramel toffee.

Estate Director, Cape Mentelle

BLEND AND ORIGIN:
Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
A wet winter followed by a cool spring gave a late start to the growing season, but glorious sunshine and settled weather resulted in an excellent, fruitful crop that was one of the latest yet highest-quality vintages on record.
The resulting blend is 90% cabernet sauvignon, 5% petit verdot and 5% merlot.

FOOD PAIRING:
A match for spicy, earthy dishes
Pair with five-spice-dusted crispy duck with soba noodles, or a hoisin-glazed ribeye steak that's been cooked over coals then served with blistered potatoes and minted peas. Or try it with a spicy Moroccan tagine of root vegetables, aubergine and courgette. And to elevate the wine's savoury, earthy elements serve it with a simple dish of buttered pappardelle with shaved black truffles.
