If 2016 was a year of innovation at Ao Yun, 2017 was a year of learning. The weather threw everything it had at the maison's Mekong Valley vineyards, forcing the team to think differently. The end result is an artistic blend of Bordeaux varieties, matured in oak and clay amphora.Deep in colour and intensely flavoured with black fruits, smoke, earth and embers, Ao Yun's powerful style has been mellowed slightly by a small portion of soothing merlot. The result is a well-balanced, velvety wine that still displays the intriguing power and minerality of cabernet sauvignon.

Blend and Origin
Due to the weather, yields were smaller than previous years, and grapes were sourced from four of the best village sites. Cabernet sauvignon (72%), cabernet franc (19%), syrah (4%), petit verdot (3%) and merlot (2%) were blended and then aged in new oak and clay amphora. As the extreme altitude of Ao Yun's vineyards can affect how the wine tastes, the team brought taste testing to sea level in Hong Kong.
