Blend and Origin
Krug Vintage 1995
Krug 1995 is the result of blending wines from 18 different plots. A long and hot summer following a spring with prolonged rain and some frost resulted in base wines with a high level of fruitiness, freshness and length. Combining chardonnay (35%), pinot noir (48%) and meunier (17%) ensured an extremely harmonious balance in this vintage.

Stories of intrigue and individuality
Rémi Krug, the fifth generation of the family, said: “This vintage is first and foremost an individual, which is exactly what people treasure about Krug.” Indeed, each Krug vintage demonstrates individuality – the maison only creates vintages in years with interesting stories to tell, rather than those marked by perfect conditions. Rémi and his brother Henri knew this all too well, and were instrumental in shaping the future of the maison and finding unique ways to create vintages that add intrigue to the collection.
From individual plots of vines planted in Krug’s exceptional terroir, grapes are vinified in separate seasoned oak casks crafted from 200-year-old French wood. Here base wines are born, spending only a short time to develop their character without absorbing woody or tannic notes. During this short but decisive period, the maison’s wines discover their defining expression – vital for creating the final vintage, in this case the charismatic 1995, and determining its ultimate ageing potential.
The 1995 vintage has a spirited, harmonious edge that in many ways encapsulates the warmth of the late summer months and fresh autumnal nights that so characterised the harvest that year. Following a mild but rainy winter, a warm spring and April frosts resulted in late flowering in Champagne. However, the vines thrived during a hot period from the end of June – a relief after four difficult years in the region – and the grapes developed expressiveness and freshness.
