LUXURY CHAMPAGNES, WINES & SPIRITS

The best wines for a business dinner

First impressions count and rarely more so than at official business dinners. The words ‘classic’ and ‘exclusive’ should guide your wine choices here. Impress your clients and colleagues with an iconic name for the champagne toast, then move onto classic red or white Bordeaux styles with exclusive names and interesting stories to go with them. Sit back and watch as these wines start conversations and open doors.

RED WINE: Aim high

A lofty altitude for vine growing, a renowned wine producer and a bit of a story make the perfect combination for entertaining high-flyers.

Try: Cheval des Andes, a fine Argentinian red made as a collaboration between the legendary Château Cheval Blanc (Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux) and Terrazas de los Andes (Mendoza, Argentina). Grown on vineyards a thousand metres above sea level, it’s an elegant blend of malbec and cabernet sauvignon with a sprinkling of petit verdot, cabernet franc and merlot for added complexity.

WHITE WINE: On cloud nine

Continuing the Bordeaux theme, you might want to look for a sauvignon blanc that has been made in the style of a wine from Graves or Pessac-Léognan for example, i.e. fermented in oak and kept on its lees for extra body and a hint of oak spice. To add intrigue however, why not find one from outside France?

Try: Cloudy Bay Te Koko sauvignon blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. Made by arguably the country’s most famous wine estate, Cloudy Bay, Te Koko has been made in the Bordeaux style to give a savoury, textured sauvignon with zest, gorgeous orchard fruit and notes of fresh spices and white flowers.

SPARKLING: the King of Champagne

There really is only one way to celebrate a business success story and that’s to toast it with a bottle one of the finest sparkling wines on the planet.

Try: Dom Pérignon. Only made in the very best vintages, the bottle itself an icon, let alone the glorious liquid inside. Impossible to ignore and pure joy to taste, pour a glass, raise it high and drink. You’ve earned it.
